Review of Ascenders

Amazon           I received this book from the author for an honest review. I gave it 3.5 stars! I did like this book, but it wasn't completely for me. There were spectacular descriptions on the appearance of different things. I could clearly picture what the author wanted me to see, and it wasn't so much so that I couldn't use my own imagination. I also liked that the author did not streamline the entire book, so it felt like there was more to the story. Personally, I think that it added to the writing quality and was refreshing.  The story was original. I love when the afterlife is played with because we don't know a lot about it. Being able to follow Walker through her experience was interesting and...

Hey, my name is Madeline! I have a preference for: Romance (YA) Fantasy (YA) Contemporary (YA) Paranormal (YA) Retellings (YA) Science fiction (YA) Mystery (YA) Steampunk (YA) Historical fiction (YA) I will post at least one picture of every book I receive on Instagram, and I will review every book I receive on my blog, BookBub, and Goodreads. I will have a snippet of my review on my Instagram to encourage my followers to look into the book and my review. I try to review books within a reasonable time frame, and if it is an ARC, I try to review the book before it is released. While that may be the case, I cannot guarantee a review, one of a certain rating when posted, and I will not promise to review a book within a given timeframe. If you are requesting a review that will be time-sensitive, please let me know so I can look at my schedule and gauge whether or not I can accept. I may also post my review and rating on Amazon.  My reviews will be honest a...

About Me

Hey! My name is Madeline and I am currently a running start student. I foster puppies and kittens for the animal shelter near me, and I love to do arts and crafts, draw, write, read (obviously), bake, go fishing and crabbing, garden, and more! German food is my favorite, and I don't like many drinks, so I usually shoot straight for water. I live in the US and I can be found on BookBub ( BookBub ), Goodreads ( Goodreads ), and Instagram ( Instagram ).

Review of Wicked Saints

I received an arc of this book through a giveaway. I gave this book 5/5 stars! The beginning of the book was slow, and I honestly thought that it wasn't going to be the book for me. But after continuing to read, I couldn't help but fall in love with it, and especially the characters! I don't usually enjoy when books are written in third person, but I think this time was done really well. It fit with the story. I think there could have been a little more character development with Nadya, particularly with her tie to her saint. Even with that small bump, I think this book deserves five stars! It was everything I didn't know I needed. It had everything that I love in a book, including gothic elements, betrayal, and a hate-love romance. Wicked Saints tore me apart. First, it took its sweet time, piece by piece. But that was before the storm hit and went crazy. If you're debating on whether or not you want to read this book, I will make the decision for you. READ IT...

Review of Romanov

I received an arc of this book through a giveaway. I gave it 5/5 stars! Oh. My. Goodness. I got wayyy too attached to this book. Do I mind? No. Do I love it? YES! I have never read historical fiction before, mostly because I don't usually find them interesting, but Brandes hooked me from the beginning! I could not put this book down at all. It was like a magnet for my imagination, bringing me to the book and not wanting to be put down. I love how the characters developed, and their individual, unique personalities. AND THOSE TWISTS! I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET OVER THEM! I don't doubt that I will be stuck in a book hangover forever.. (or at least for a good amount of time). It's an enchanting book, and I will never forgive Brandes for messing with my emotions so skillfully. The world building was amazing, and so was the plot. I love the historical aspects, which were accompanied by the historical fiction very well. If I didn't know better, I would have thought the ...

Review of To Best the Boys

I received an arc through a giveaway. I gave this book 4/5 stars! This is such a great book! In all honesty, I would not have decided to pick this book up on my own. I didn't think it would be something I enjoyed, but the moment I started reading I realized just how wrong I was. This book follows a girl who has a lot to fight for, and the way she overcomes challenges is very inspirational. My review cannot do this book justice, it was just that good. The plot was well developed and I think that the world building was okay. I only had one problem, which was that I couldn't figure out the time period. There were a few twists that I did not see coming, whether it be because I was so enveloped by the story I couldn't see it right in front of me, or because of my stupidity, I do not know. The characters were well developed, and the descriptions were well done. They weren't overdone, or in need of development. I could clearly picture the areas Rhen was in. I could not pu...

Review of Tin Hearts

I received an arc of this book through a giveaway. I gave this book 4/5 stars! This book didn't disappoint me. I really love this book, and am so glad to have received an ARC through a giveaway. The book includes bullying and goes through the obstacles one might face after receiving a transplant. It was wonderful to be able to step into someone else's thoughts, and feel roughly the same emotions that the character is feeling. It opened my eyes to how someone who has had a transplant might be feeling. I loved being able to walk through the different obstacles Marlowe went through. The author did a wonderful job pulling at my emotions and causing me to feel sympathy for the character. I usually read fantasies, so reading a contemporary story that could be a true story in some cases, and one that others could possibly relate to, was different for me. The only thing keeping me from giving this book an even higher rating is how difficult it was for me to view her younger brothe...

Review of Ash Princess

I gave this book 4/5 stars! I actually enjoyed this book a lot. I love books with royalty in them, and this one met my expectations. I am a sucker for this stuff! Although love triangles aren't a trope that I mind, I have read enough of them to know that a good sum of the characters choose the first one they fell for. Bella chose Edward (Twilight), Ky chose Cassia (Matched), Lena chose Alex (Delirium)... But in this book, I don't know who Theodosia will choose because she fell for two boys at almost the same time! I also loved how the book ended with questions left unanswered, and allowed the readers to be able to conjure their own theories before reading the next book. While there were many amazing aspects that made up this book, I did find a couple of the plot twists to be easily foreseen. This review is also on Goodreads and BookBub! Synopsis: Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes. On that day,...

Review of The Wicked King

I gave this book 5/5 stars! *screams for a year and one day* I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS! Who would have thought that the second book could be better than the first? I never really found delight in second books of trilogies. They seemed more like place holders to me, but this one blew me away! It was well written and captivating. I didn't want to stop reading and I have no idea how the next book will turn out because of the amount of twists and turns. I don't know how I will SURVIVE waiting for the next book. This book will be one of my top recommendations for any book lover, the events and development of the plot and characters being mind blowing. Words cannot express how absolutely in love I am with this book and how wonderful this book is. I love how when Jude fights her opponents, the opponents put up a fight. I love how it doesn't show that Jude can take out everyone and they don't put up a good fight. I also love how there is a continuation of betrayal. It kept me ...

Review of Beast: A Tale of Love and Revenge

I gave this book 4/5 stars! This book seemed interesting, so I began to read it. As I was reading it, I found some of the events to be boring, and I was continually wondering when Jean-Loup was going to change into the Beast. I was wondering this because I know that is when Beauty and the Beast really starts to get interesting. When it did, I began to feel myself getting attached to the characters and I wanted certain scenarios to happen, including for the Beast to be with Lucie. I also found myself becoming more interested in the story and wanting to continue reading. While that may be the case, I did not mind putting the book down. I absolutely love the ending and I didn't see the plot twists coming. It is an original story, and I could clearly picture the world inside this book. I understood it well, and I love how the characters bloomed. This book did not follow Disney's Beauty and the Beast, incase you were wondering because it was my initial thought. It was actually ...

Review of Starswept

I gave this book 5/5 stars! WOW! I cannot believe how much I truly enjoyed this book. I am nearly completely at a loss for words. I could hardly put this book down and I cried during a few scenes. Mary Fan is an incredible writer and I am so happy that I decided to read this book. My only wish is that I read it at the end of February so I didn't have to wait for the next book! I would recommend this book to anyone and I cannot wait to see what the two lovers go through in Wayward Stars. I fell in love with the characters the moment I began reading this book, and I hope that more people read this book and love it as much as I do. Reading this book will take anyone on a wonderful journey, emotions being messed with at every corner. You will be able to imagine the entire world Mary Fan built with ease and the character development was well done. I really liked how each chapter had a unique picture that could be linked to something in the chapter. I thought it was very unique, as ...

Review of Fairest of All

I gave this book 3/5 stars. It was twisted, tragic, original, and there were wonderful characters. This book was very informative and eye-opening on why the Evil Queen was the way she was. It lead me to feel pity towards her and not see her as filled with just evil. Each event that had occurred was important for the story and some were lightly mentioned later on. There wasn't a lot of dialogue, the majority being descriptions and internal thoughts. The beginning was a little slow, but halfway through the middle of the book, it began to pick up speed. This book is perfect for Disney fans who love the Evil Queen and I am so glad that I read this book. This review is also on Goodreads and BookBub! Synopsis: The tale of the young princess and her evil stepmother, the Wicked Queen, is widely known. Despite a few variations from telling to telling, the story remains the same—the Queen was jealous of the girl’s beauty, and this jealousy culminated in the Queen’s attempt on the...

Review of The Cruel Prince

I gave this book 5/5 stars! I enjoyed every single moment I spent reading this book! It’s not overwhelmingly descriptive and I think it is a perfect book for people who love to read, and for those who claim to not like reading. It was very well written and very straight to the point. I felt like the story had two layers, one layer skimming the surface and going at an average pace while the second layer was going faster. I loved the twists that occurred and I could not stop reading! When I wasn’t reading, I couldn’t get my mind off the book! I don’t know what I will do before the next book comes out. I NEED IT! Even before I finished the book I was suggesting it to my friends! You wouldn’t be disappointed if you decided to read the book and I cannot believe I waited so long to read it. My review is also up on Goodreads and BookBub! Synopsis: Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever. And Card...

Review of The City of Veils

Amazon             Barnes and Nobles           Author Website I received an arc of the book through the author's newsletter. I also gave this book 5/5 stars! Review: I absolutely LOVE t his book! Brynna is quite relatable and is definitely something when it comes to mischief. I am in absolute love with her personality. She knows her place and doesn't let people push her around. It is something I admire in her. She is also very witty and I couldn't get enough. Once I started, I didn't want to stop and I did cry a few times (just a few tear drops here and there).  The plot was well developed, in my opinion, and Evans really knows how to keep things interesting. This is the first book by Evans I have read, and I definitely will be reading more of her books from now on. I wish I had the next book and I cannot wait for it to be released! I highly recommend this read and I hope it gets the hype it deserves. This review ...
