I am giving this book 5/5 stars!
GUYS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER! I DON'T WANT IT TO END!
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I wish there were more books to come. I definitely think that there could be more if Holly Black wanted to make it happen.
I live for Jude and Cardan's relationship, and their own personalities. I love these two so much. They are so skillfully crafted and have many layers to their personalities. There is more than just the sad, drunk boy, more than just the strong, power hungry girl. Their relationship grows in such a great way in this book. It tore me up!
Many questions that had been unanswered in the second book are answered in this book, and I like that she brings up events from the first two books, like when Cardan is staring at her while two magical folk are on him and kissing him. I feel like there are questions I still have that this book brought up, but it's nothing big that will eat at me for all eternity... It's just the burning question of what happens next... *nervous laughter*
I like the first half, but I really like the second half of the book. So much happened in the second half that it was just a little more interesting to me (like Cardan turning into a snake, or their romantic moments). The first half definitely set it all up though, and was a nice bridge from the second book to this one.
So many emotions. Everywhere. On my end AND in the book. I got the Barnes and Nobles edition, so there were letters from Cardan that are mentioned in the book. THOSE LETTERS TORE ME UP, THE LAST LETTER IN IT TOOK THE LAST SLIVER OF CONTROL I HAD, AND WITH IT THE COMPLETE END OF THE BOOK. THE SERIES. AND THAT'S NOT EVEN HALF OF WHERE THE EMOTIONS CAME FROM.
This is a great time to have a little chat about Cardan. When Jude finds out about how Cardan went to the apartment in the mortal world to tell them about how Jude was taken by Madoc, when Cardan told her he loves her, when she tells him she loves him, whenever they bring up things from the past... I couldn't contain my happiness. I especially loved his reason for exiling her. Such a classic dumb boy move. But it's cute how he wants her to like him. I especially love when Nicassia talks to Jude about his love for her and her love for him in return.
I love the epilogue when Cardan, Jude, and her family are in the human world. It's something that I know will stick with me for a looooong time.
I definitely think that this series has helped me become better at finding loopholes and crafting my words more carefully. I wish there had been more pages to this book. It felt short. I think this is actually the shortest book I have ever read (almost 300 pages excluding the epilogue, 305 pages including it). This saddened me since this is the last book in one of my favorite series, and it was very well done.
Okay, I think it's time for a reread. I can't stay away from Cardan for more than two seconds. Am I obsessed? Yes. Is it a problem? Maybe. Do I really care? Nope.
