Review of Serpent & Dove

I am giving this book 5/5 stars!  Okay so I finished The Queen of Nothing before reading this book and it definitely left me in a big book hangover. After a week or so I knew the only way to get out of it or push it along would be to read a book that I will love equally as much or more, so I picked this book off my shelf... It has made me go from one book hangover to another, and I'm not even completely finished with the last one! I wasn't even half way through this book when I began to really click with the characters. It happened very quickly and without my knowledge. I love Ansel, Coco, Lou, and Reid. So much character development occurred, especially for Lou and Reid. It happened in a way that made me love them even more. I have to admit, at first I didn't know how I felt about Reid. I didn't think I would end up liking him as much as I do, and that's what I call good character development! An event occurred close to the middle of the book that had me ...

Review of The Queen of Nothing (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

This review is the version that  CONTAINS SPOILERS!  Proceed with caution.  You have been warned. I am giving this book 5/5 stars! GUYS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER! I DON'T WANT IT TO END! I really enjoyed reading this book, and I wish there were more books to come. I definitely think that there could be more if Holly Black wanted to make it happen. I live for Jude and Cardan's relationship, and their own personalities. I love these two so much. They are so skillfully crafted and have many layers to their personalities. There is more than just the sad, drunk boy, more than just the strong, power hungry girl. Their relationship grows in such a great way in this book. It tore me up!  Many questions that had been unanswered in the second book are answered in this book, and I like that she brings up events from the first two books, like when Cardan is staring at her while two magical folk are on him and kissing him. I feel like there are questions I ...

I like the first half, but I really like the second half of the book. So much happene...

Review of Gilded Rose: A Beauty and the Beast Retelling

I received this book after telling the author I would love to Beta Read her book, which was in response to her newsletter. It releases November 27, 2019! I am giving this book 5/5 stars! I didn't know what to expect from this book. Just before starting it, I had finished another Beauty and the Beast retelling ( A Curse So Dark and Lonely )that had quickly made it to the top of my list of favorite retellings. I didn't expect this book to be as great as that, but it was! Gilded Rose: A Beauty and the Beast Retelling quickly made it to the top of my list and is now one of my favorite retellings.  The Beast is one of a kind in my eyes. He seemed more demonic and I honestly loved that. It made me think of Persephone and Hades. I hadn't read a book where the beast was portrayed this way, and it left me wondering how on earth the author was going to have Amicia fall in love with someone like that.  The first chapter did a great job at setting up the story and getting i...

Review of A Curse So Dark and Lonely

I'm giving this book 4/5 stars! This book definitely met my expectations (considering there was sooo much hype), but it also took a turn I didn't expect. I was expecting a story similar to many of the other Beauty and the Beast retellings where they are a monster 24/7 and there are cursed people that may or may not be objects (kind of like Beast: a Tale of Love and Revenge by Lisa Jensen). I was pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case. It definitely has its own original twist that makes it feel like I haven't read this story before, even though I know the tale it is based off of. It was refreshing and I think I enjoyed it a lot more because of that. A Curse So Dark and Lonely is definitely the best retelling I have EVER read.  This story hooked me right from the start and it got straight to the point. It didn't take forever describing anything and I really enjoyed that. The author did a great job at not information dumping and keeping everything neat...
